Hardware wallet access guide

Official Trezor login® — Desktop & Web* App for Hardware Wallets

Trezor was the first hardware wallet, and it is still one of the most widely used ways to keep crypto keys offline. But “Trezor login” does not behave like an ordinary account. There is no password on a server and no session anyone can steal. The device is the login: you connect it, unlock it with your PIN, and approve every action on its own screen. This page explains how the desktop and web apps work, how to sign in without exposing your keys, and what to do when your Trezor is not detected.

  • No password — a PIN entered on the device
  • No cloud keys — the seed never leaves the chip
  • One app — Trezor Suite, desktop or browser

01 What “Trezor login” really means

Two ideas get mixed together: signing in to a Trezor account, and unlocking your hardware wallet. When you open Trezor Suite — the official desktop and web application — you are not logging in to a Trezor server. You are opening a local interface that talks to the device over USB or through a small helper called Bridge.

Everything sensitive happens inside the device. The PIN is entered on the Trezor or through a scrambled keypad, the recovery seed never leaves the secure chip, and every transaction must be physically confirmed. That is why “Trezor login” describes a local unlock rather than an online credential. Your password is a PIN, your account is a device, and your recovery seed is the only backup that truly matters.

In one line: the app shows you the wallet, but only the device can move funds.

02 What you need before you start

  • Your Trezor device and the PIN you set during setup
  • A USB data cable — charge-only cables are a common failure
  • Trezor Suite installed, or a supported browser for the web app
  • Your recovery seed written down offline, on paper or steel
  • Firmware up to date, installed from the official app

03 How to log in, step by step

  1. Open the official app. Download Trezor Suite from trezor.io, or open the web app in Chrome, Edge, Brave or Firefox. Never start a “login” from an email link, a social post or a sponsored ad.
  2. Connect the device with your own USB cable. Give the browser permission if it asks to access the device.
  3. Pick your model in the app: Model One, Model T, Safe 3 or Safe 5.
  4. Unlock with your PIN. Use the shuffled keypad on screen, or enter it directly on the device. Ten wrong attempts wipe the wallet — no exceptions.
  5. Enter your passphrase if you use one. It is typed in the app but stored only on the device for that session.
  6. Confirm on the device screen. Trezor shows the account, address or amount being affected. Approve it physically; nothing happens until you do.
  7. You are in. Balances, accounts, send and receive, buy and exchange all live in the same dashboard.

04 Desktop app or web app — which one?

Both routes reach the same wallet. The difference is convenience versus stability. The desktop app is a full install that updates itself and needs no browser helper. The web app needs nothing but a browser tab, and on some machines a Bridge install before it can see the device.

Comparison of the two official ways to sign in
Feature Desktop app Web app
Install required Yes, one download No, open a tab
Device detection Built in WebUSB or Bridge
Works offline Yes, for signing No
Browser support Any Chrome, Edge, Brave, Firefox

05 Why your browser cannot see the device

Browsers reach USB devices through WebUSB, or through Trezor Bridge, a small helper that runs in the background and relays commands. If the app reports “device not found”, the browser has usually lost permission: unplug, replug, and accept the permission prompt again. Otherwise install Bridge and restart the browser. Safari on iOS and heavily locked-down corporate browsers cannot see hardware wallets at all, which is why the desktop app remains the safer default.

06 PIN, passphrase and seed — three different things

PIN
Unlocks the device. Short, stored inside the chip, and recoverable with your seed.
Passphrase
An extra word that opens a separate hidden wallet. Powerful, but easy to lose — no backup exists.
Recovery seed
The master backup. It is only ever entered on the device itself, never on a website, app, chat or support form.

07 Common login problems and their fixes

  • Device not detected — swap the cable, try a rear USB port, avoid unpowered hubs, reinstall Bridge.
  • “Device is busy” — close any other wallet, exchange or app that already holds the device.
  • Wrong PIN lockout — wait out the increasing delay; if the device wiped, restore from your seed.
  • Firmware update required — update only from inside the official app, never from a link.
  • Web app blocked — switch to the desktop app, where device access is native.
  • Wallet looks empty — a different passphrase or a different seed is in play. Check both before panicking.

08 Security rules you should never break

  • Buy from the official store or an authorised reseller — never a marketplace device that arrives “pre-configured”.
  • Write the seed on paper or steel. Never photograph it, email it or type it into any website.
  • Reach the app only through the official domain or your own installed copy.
  • Verify every receiving address on the device screen before you share it.
  • No legitimate support agent will ever ask for your seed phrase or PIN.
  • Ignore sponsored ads and lookalike domains — they are the most common attack route.

09 Models, coins and networks

Trezor Suite recognises every current model — Model One, Model T, Safe 3 and Safe 5 — through one interface and one restore flow. Whichever you own, the sign-in steps are identical: connect, enter the PIN, approve on the device screen.

Inside the app you can hold Bitcoin and Lightning, Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens, Litecoin, Cardano, Solana, XRP, Dogecoin and other major networks, each in its own account. The coins are never stored in the app — the device holds the keys and the blockchain holds the balances. Adding a network therefore needs no new download and no new account: enable it in settings and your existing seed already covers it.

10 Frequently asked questions

Is there a single Trezor login page?

No. There is no web page where you enter a username and password. You download or launch the official app, then unlock the connected device.

Can I check my balance without the device?

Yes — a watch-only account can display balances, addresses and history. It cannot sign anything, so funds stay safe until the device is connected.

Can I use my Trezor on two computers?

Yes. Install the app on each machine and connect the same device. The wallet is on the hardware, not on the computer.

What happens if I lose or break the device?

Your funds are not on the device, they are on the blockchain. Buy a replacement and restore it with your recovery seed to regain full access.

Do I need internet to sign in?

The app needs a connection to show balances and broadcast transactions. The private keys themselves never leave the device, connected or not.
